Sometimes when you're trying to fix things around the house, you just have to improvise and come up with a "best solution" for the time being. This has never been more true than since having children. Let's face it, kids are little harder on things than most people. :)
So, a couple of years ago my kids got one of those plastic, stand-alone basketball hoops. It is generally constructed very well, all except for the bracket that holds the main pole in place which controls the overall height, which had broken off a little while back. So, for a little while the kids had been content to play with hoop all the way down. I got to thinking and decided I could probably come up with a solution to keep the hoop held up higher...enter drywall screws!
Owen and I held the pole up to where we wanted and I ran a couple of screws into it, just deep enough to keep the pole from sliding all the way down. Really, I can't understand why the original design of it didn't use some type of dowel rod through the center pole, which would most certainly have been effective against the breakage we experienced with the plastic bracket that eventually broke off.
Now, the kids are back to playing kitchen basketball, with the hoope at a height more suitable. :)
